Changing the DNC Mascot...

It's a donkey. An ass. Perhaps it's time to change it to something that shows more strength. Like a dinosaur. An Apatosaurus. Gentle, yet giant. Big enough to know how to bat off and fight off any Republicans. I mean, predators. WITHOUT Jesus riding it...

Or maybe a Triceratops. Again, gentle, non-hunting, yet VERY strong and not afraid to use those horns...

And again, WITHOUT Jesus riding one...

I always felt the donkey/elephant symbols were more more demeaning to Democrats than to Republicans. An elephant is an intelligent, dignified creature; a donkey is a jackass.

On the other hand, elephants look hopelessly old and wrinkly, no matter what their age, and they seem a bit ridiculous in most situations.

We need to realize, of course, that these symbols arose at a time when the parties were very different than they are today. In the nineteenth century, Democrats were the conservative party that advocated limited government and states rights, while the Republicans were the radicals who advocated (and achieved) massive government expansion. The demographics were different too: the Republicans were the party of rights for blacks, the Democrats were the party of Southern whites.
