For Obama, Improbable Path to the Dem Nomination
Interesting chronology and analysis of Obama's rise to receiving the Democratic nomination.
Wasn't around to blog yesterday. Took the kiddies to the zoo in the morning and went to a seminar on bariatric surgery in the afternoon. Came back depressed. I'll write about that later...

I watched a few speeches from the first night of the Democratic Convention (using the website itself). I saw Jackson, Kennedy, and some others I didn't recognize. I didn't see Michelle Obama's speech.
What I saw seemed awfully banal. It was vague and lacking in substance. James Carville has complained that it didn't go negative enough, and that they're making the same mistake they did in 2004. He underestimates the problem. In 2004, at least there was a singular, overarching theme. What I saw last night was just a boring Obama lovefest with very few statements of substance or policy.
Some commentators have suggested they wanted to stay positive so as to humanize Michelle. But there was nothing humanizing about what I saw; it looked like a bad infomercial.
I thought the Democrats had everything in order this year, and despite some complaints were doing most things right. What I saw last night--which admittedly was only a slice of the event, though my feelings have been echoed by others who watched the whole thing--didn't just disappoint me, it shocked me. It made me think the Democrats have really lost it, and are far more clueless than we ever imagined.
Just watched Michelle's speech. It was very good and very inspiring, though she's not nearly as good a speaker as her husband. I didn't have a chance to watch anything else last night. I'll blog about that later...
How many people are as a good a speaker as Barack? He's one of the best speakers we've had on any national ticket in a long, long time.
True, dat. :)
