What a Beautiful Person!!
WOW!! I just read the most amazing article on Arutz 7. A Russian Oleh, Arcady Gaydamak, who last year built a tent city for refugees from the now infamous "Second Lebanon War," has recently built a similar tent city for refugees from the terrorist rocket bombings in Sderot. The tent city is located in the Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv, and Gaydamak has spent tens of thousands of dollars of his own money to finance it. It includes living quarters, a small shul, all day activities and performaces, and food and drink for the refugees.
Gaydamak is not doing this for personal aggrandizement or to gather political power, though these are things of which he has been accused. He has even avoided appearing at the tent city in order not to seem like he is trying "score points" with the residents.
He is doing this for one reason: He saw Jews in need, and he filled that need. This man is a true Ba'al Chesed. LIke I said before: WOW!!

Not so simple. I don't have the time to get into details, but he's a bit shady. And under investigation by the police.
Doesn't matter. This is the second time he's done this, and unless he's doing it to launder the money he's spending, and I'm not sure how he would do that, this specific act is an act of chesed, regardless of anything else going on with him.
it is chessed and I like him. However, he may very well have political intentions when doing this. He gets support of the people who like his chessed, he gets to put down the government and make them look bad, while they can say little about him as a private citizen doing chessed.
He has already declared his intentions to run for mayor of Jerusalem, which is generally considered a stepping stone to higher politics..
I like him, but his motives might not be pure chessed.
Gaydamak most definitely does have political aspirations - he wants to be mayor of Jerusalem
