The Latest Anti-Obama Smear: Is Barack Obama the Anti-Christ?

Check it out on Snopes. I especially like the part about the Book of Revelation (it's not RevelationS as the email states - I'm not Christian and even I know that!) describing the anti-Christ as a MUSLIM descended man in his 40s.

Are people so stupid they don't even know basic religious history? Islam came along about SIX HUNDRED YEARS AFTER Christianity! And Revelation was written at the end of the FIRST century AD!

Also, as the Snopes article mentions, there is not mention of the term "anti-Christ." And there is CERTAINLY no mention of Islam, which wouldn't exist until the SEVENTH CENTURY AD!

But, unfortunately, people are going to see this email in the inbox and they'll think not only Obama is a Muslim, he's also the anti-Christ.

On the other hand, if he IS the anti-Christ, shouldn't us Jews by default vote for him? :)

Title of Snopes article: Is Barack Obama the Anti-Christ?

Thank God for Snopes. How would I have ever figured out the answer on my own?

LOL!

The problem is, just as with that stupid email going around about Obama being a Muslim (and I know PLENTY of people, frum Jews, who firmly believe Obama is a Muslim despite all the proof to the contrary), people will believe this as well.

Sad, but true. I've spoken to lots of people who think he's a Muslim, people who know pretty much NOTHING about the Book of Revelation (as stupid as it is), who will take this email at face value and simply believe it to be true. Alas, my sister and her children is one of those... She thinks Republicans in general and Bush in particular are God's wonderful gift to the world and the Jews and thinks Democrats are devil-spawn.

What can you do. Stupid people do, unfortunately, roam the Earth. We currently have one for a president...

I also know people who have fallen prey to the rumors of his Muslim heritage. And not just Republicans, but even some Clinton supporters. After the Wright controversy, it has taken on a paradoxical quality, where Obama is said to be part of a black supremacist Muslim church. It brings to mind the old 1930s rumors about conspiracies run by Commie Jew bankers.

But somehow I doubt this latest charge is likely to resonate with these same people.

It's the "anything to discredit something good" mentality. People are really afraid of change, especially the wealthy, because they're perfectly happy with the status quo. Even the poor are scared of change because what if it's worse than now. I'm pretty poor, and it can certainly get worse, but I'm willing to take the risk because things just can't go on as they are. Unfortunately, many people are just so scared they'd rather have the crap we have now, with the same old "old world" politics instead of something fresh, new, and exciting.

What's funny is Bill Clinton was about the same age as Obama is now when Clinton became president. His qualifications were really no better than Obama's (perhaps a bit different, but not better), and he captured the vote based on his own charisma and "down home" appearance, attitude, and mannerisms, which, in hindsight, is probably what got us Bush because people just really didn't understand Gore... Too intellectual! :)
