Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!
Eh. OK. I already finished it. It was 759 pages long, and the story could have been told in about 400 pages. There was a lot of diddle dallying in the book, a lot of non-action. It does all come to together in the very climactic final few chapters, especially when Harry finally learns all the secrets. Then came the completely unnecessary epilogue, which takes place nineteen years later and is there simply to tell us all is well in the future.
End of story? Ended so-so. Rather disappointing.

The whole release of the book has been an "event" and not based on the literary merit of the book. All the reviews I've seen are extremely positive with not one criticism.
That's probably because no one dared say a negative word about the book. Which is pretty sad because there was plenty negative to say about it...
Now, I bought this book. I even had it on order months ago at Amazon.com. And I was pretty disappointed.
In fact, the more time passes since I finished the book, the more I'm disliking it. As I said, it could have been told in far fewer pages that it was. Not very much happened in about two thirds of the book. Every time I turned the page, I kept hoping for something significant to happen, and nothing did.
Also, many major characters simply had too few or no scenes at all. Where was Snape? He had one scene in the very beginning of the book, and then two more at the end, and none did he do anything very "Snape-like!"
In all, I am very disappointed. Perhaps one thing that would have made this book a far better one is if she had followed the format of the three first books and made it a lot shorter.
I guess Rowling has gone the way of Robert Jordan...:(
Oh, and: Hi wife!!
Well, actually Jo has a reason for picking 19 years in the future. She stated that a book 8 might be coming....for charity....I know she prefers writing about girl characters, so I believe the new focus will be on Harry and Ginny's daughter Lily. Also, we know there's more to the story. Another Dark Wizard must come to power soon (my bet is on Malfoy). I do agree with you that book 7 should have been shorter, but should have explained a bit more.
