That's pretty dumb.Am Kshe Oref - A Stiff-Necked Peoplehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06244053147685734300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32915027.post-66626763957772060522008-09-03T16:57:00.000-04:002008-09-03T16:57:00.000-04:00I think Palin is smart and very aggressive, and th...I think Palin is smart and very aggressive, and that she will be good for the ticket unless she does something unforgivably offensive (a.n.: please please do something unforgivably offensive.) However, her appeal is not to Hilary supporters, because really, how stupid do they think women are. Her appeal is to the religious right. And it's a huge appeal.anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06294605406274798696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32915027.post-52288786955600299522008-09-03T16:34:00.000-04:002008-09-03T16:34:00.000-04:00Well, we'll have to see going in. But the Democratic ticket knows more what's at stake now than their counterparts in 2000 and 2004 understood then, and their going to be VERY careful.Am Kshe Oref - A Stiff-Necked Peoplehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06244053147685734300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32915027.post-31063180536066751722008-09-03T16:17:00.000-04:002008-09-03T16:17:00.000-04:00While I want to believe that McCain has just shot ...While I want to believe that McCain has just shot himself in the foot with the Palin pick, I have the uneasy feeling that we could be underestimating her, similar to the way we underestimated Dubya in 2000. So many commentators are predicting her demise, or her negative effect on the McCain ticket, they are lowering expectations to the point that she will have to do very little to succeed politically.

Politics is partly a game of expectations. Back in 2000, everyone expected Gore to make mincemeat of Bush in the debates. That he did not, according to many observers, was seen as a triumph for Bush, even though Bush did not seem particularly impressive. By 2004, Kerry had caught on to this strategy, and in the weeks leading up to the first debate, he made a big deal in various interviews about how formidable a debater Bush is. Then Kerry ended up performing well in the first debate, and partly because of the lowered expectations he was seen as the clear winner by nearly everyone.Kylopodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06932528611103718373noreply@blogger.com
